The Bird Has Been FreedDrifting in and out of sleep, I lift my heavy eyelids every few minutes to the sight of a sea of endless jail cells. The sluggish oblivion drugs me, and with its addiction and pleasure, I couldn’t resist the rare opportunity of sleep. A familiar echo dances through the silence, playfully stirring the peaceful stillness; it tiptoes into my ears. I awake.

Breathing Over My ShoulderBreathing over my shoulder I stand in an abandoned murky parking lot where one car sits and one street light shines a steady buzz an occasional flicker
Breathing over my shoulder I turn to my left and walk straight away from the now distant light my steps fall into puddles dark, shallow, and all around
